Mentorship
Orphan Relief and Rescue’s Child Development Program provides small group mentoring and addresses every child’s need for individual attention. We believe in a holistic approach and so, after physical needs are met through our other programs, we address the emotional, spiritual, and social issues that arise from living in an orphanage home.
Program Highlights:
- Children are encouraged to believe that they are special, unique, and loved.
- Teaching times with older children address specific topics pertaining to character development and growth.
- Small groups encourage one-on-one mentoring and discussions.
- Children suffering from specific traumas are identified and referred for counseling.
- Caretakers are trained in aspects of childcare and encouraged to value children as gifts.
- Through the ORR scholarship program, eligible children are matched with a sponsor to assist with secondary education.
Orphan Relief and Rescue desires to see changed lives, and we believe that true transformation can only come through God's power at work in individuals. Therefore, our Child Development Program is Biblically based, and we strive to raise healthy, compassionate young adults who know and develop relationships with Christ. Children are invited to attend this program, but consistent with our Principles of Practice, participation is completely voluntary.
Help Sponsor a Child’s School Fees
Years after the end of the civil war, Liberia’s education system is still suffering. There is a public school system, but classes are overcrowded and even the smallest children buy grades. There are few books or supplies, and teachers often don’t show up for class. Little individual attention is available, and those who can’t keep up are left behind. There are no public libraries, and few community centers or resources. Corruption is widespread. Though tuition for public school is free, mandatory uniforms, fees, and transportation make completing an education difficult for most children in orphanages. Private schools are available, and in general the education received is of higher quality. Private schools charge tuition in addition to fees and uniforms.
Orphan Relief and Rescue’s Scholarship Program identifies children at risk of not completing secondary education, and through cooperation with the orphanage director, provides for tuition fees, supplies, uniforms and transportation for the school year.
On average, scholarships cost $315 per year, or $26 per month.
Leave a Note for a Child
If you’ve visited an Orphan Relief and Rescue partner home, the kids remember you. Chances are they’ve been asking about you non-stop since you left!
It would mean the world to them if you would take a moment to leave a short note to a specific child or to a group of kids. Our team on the ground will make sure it gets delivered. It will make the kids feel special to know that you haven’t forgotten them!
