Construction

Civil War in Liberia left most infrastructure destroyed. A nation ahead of its time was debilitated. Homes were abandoned as the occupants fled the fighting, and buildings were ransacked and looted. The power and water plants were destroyed, further crippling the population. As the number of orphaned and abandoned children skyrocketed, makeshift orphanages were established in homes without roofs or beds, with contaminated water sources, no toilets, and no kitchen facilities.

The primary goals of Orphan Relief and Rescue’s construction projects are to provide kids with healthy living conditions: those that are clean, dry, and safe. Most of our projects restore existing structures to livable conditions, while at times new construction is necessary.

Consistent with our core values, our construction projects focus on training Liberians in a skilled trade. Masons, carpenters, and laborers are given a fair wage and mentored in their area of interest, increasing their knowledge base and giving them an edge for the future. 

Once the children's homes are safe and secure, and their physical needs have been met, we can then begin to focus on their emotional and spiritual well-being.
